TANED - Conservation Education Tanzania

Teaching Children about Conservation to create a Sustainable future for Tanzania

It is very important to give children in Tanzania an opportunity to go to school and learn about nature and the importance of conservation measures.

There are many challenges ahead and we need your help to preserve the unique nature resources in Tanzania.

Conservation Challenges

TANED’s mission is to develop conservation education systems both in schools and in societies in the vicinity of protected areas

Biodiversity loss

Global challenges that are causing biodiversity loss

  • Human population growth
  • Infrastructure development
  • Land use change
  • Global warming

Africa in general, and Tanzania in particular, experience all these challenges.

Protected areas

Tanzania has set aside more than 30% of its terrestrial land to protected areas

People living close to these protected areas are experiencing increasing interactions with wildlife, causing property damage as well as death and injury of both humans and wildlife

Lack of resources

Few conservation specialists are available to inform the population of the importance of conservation to protect Tanzania´s most precious resource and help people and wildlife to live side by side.

To better understand the challenges and to be involved in any mitigation measures, local people need to be more involved in conservation of natural resources

Working to improve statistics

Challenges are meant to be solved, and continued efforts are needed

Wildlife-dedicated areas

A total of 44% of the land mass is somehow protected or preserved causing challenges for people.

Million people in Tanzania

The population has skyrocketed from about 8 million people in 1961 to 73 million today

Lack enough clean water

This increases illness, while only 47% of the population has access to medical care and medicine

AfricanBioServices (ABS) was a successful European Union-funded project taking on the same challenges as TANED. We continue the efforts of all the work that ABS has started and come a long way on.

There are still many things that we need to overcome, but with consistent work, we can create a sustainable Tanzania that can create a tradition where children are taught conservation and tools to live side by side with wildlife, future nature challenges and threats.

Field work for AfricanBioServices

Teaching children about consevation was one of the goals

AfricanBioServices successfully educated hundreds of children in several schools about the importance of eco systems
